Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Ballard Funeral Home Chapel for Dorothy Juanita Jones, 85, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. The Rev. Jerry Beaver of Tabernacle Baptist Church will be officiating, with the Rev. Dr. Onsy Whicker assisting.
Dorothy was born April 16, 1926, in Seminole, Okla., to Dewey and Katie Thorn, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie Lee and Michael Dwane; her husband Leslie Jones; and her sister, Crystal Powers.
She is survived by her sons, Don and wife Aleen, of Roswell, and Bob and wife Sherry, of Arizona; her daughter Peggy Jones and Rick, of Roswell; five grandchildren, Chris and Missy Jones, of Carlsbad, Tim and Monica Jones, of Arizona, Teresa and Perry McCreary, of Roswell, Ryan Jones, of Arizona, and Chad Sanders and Susan, of Florida; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
In earlier years Dorothy, was a beautician owning her own shop called “Dots.” She was later employed as a cook at ENMMC and Sunset Villa. She was a very good cook.
Pallbearers will be C.W. Hamilton, Chris Jones, Perry McCreary, Kevin Weekley and Hollis Boardman.
