The Roswell Police Department responded to a report of a body found along the Spring River Bicycle Path near the J. Kenneth Smith Bird Sanctuary & Nature Center on North Sycamore Avenue around 10:45 a.m., Friday.
Police later identified the deceased as local artist Dawson “Ben” Napps, 51, of Roswell.
RPD spokesman Travis Holley says Napps was riding a bicycle on the path when he succumbed to death by natural causes.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. He was last seen at 9:30 a.m.,” Holley said, adding “There was no foul play. All preliminary indications are he died of natural causes.”
Officials from the Roswell’s Office of Medical Investigator arrived at the scene a little before 11 a.m. RPD Detective Kim Northcutt is leading the investigation.
Dawson is listed on the internet as a Southwestern artist. He donated a piece he had done of Georgia O’Keeffe’s home to the Roswell Museum and Art Center in 1994.
