A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on June 25, 2011, at Tabernacle Baptist Church for Virginia (Ginger) Rogers, of Roswell, with the Rev. Jason Perry of ficiating. She passed away June 7, 2011, after a long struggle with cancer.
Ginger was born May 11, 1943, in Silver City, to Jasper and Maggie Smith, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. She is survived at the family home by her loving companion Joseph Finnigan, and their cat Miss [auth] Kitty. She is also survived by her son, Russell Rogers and wife, Celeste, of Roswell; grandchildren, Sunnie Allen and spouse of Benton, Miss., Hayden Rogers, of Benton, Marla Barrone and spouse, of Roswell, and Allyssa Zamora, of Roswell; three great-grandchildren, Shelby, Deegan and Gavin; two sisters, Lunell Motley and Susi Miller, of Roswell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ginger was a loving and caring woman. She loved to have her family and friends around and loved having gatherings no matter what the occasion was. She helped create endless memories for all who were involved in her life.
She had many occupations throughout her life but her greatest was being a grandmother. She loved her grandchildren as if there were no tomorrow. She never let a birthday or a holiday go by where she didn’t send a card or a gift to her loved ones. She loved music, whether it was Elvis, or her all-time favorite country singer Gene Watson. She loved to sew, making her own created designer jeans or baby quilts for any baby who she heard was going to be born, whether it was for family or friends. For all who knew her and had the privilege of having her in their lives, she will be missed and never forgotten.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the American Lung Association, www.LungUSA.ORG. The family would like to thank Dr. Dany El-Sayah and staff from the Cancer Center for their care of Ginger.
