A mother traveling with her husband and two young children was hit by a car driving in a funeral procession on South Main Street, Saturday afternoon, authorities say.

The 31-year-old woman, Leticia Renteria, was taken to Eastern New Mexico [auth] Medical Center after suffering neck and back injuries. Police say a four -door Ford SUV that was driving northbound in a funeral procession on Main Street swiped Renteria’s 2000 Ford pickup truck as the SUV made a left onto Poe Street.

Police identified the driver of the SUV as Loris DeKay, 70, of Roswell. “She failed to yield,” Roswell Police Officer N. Poire said. Officer Erica O’Bryon, RPD spokeswoman, said the two children, ages 7 and 13, suffered “obvious signs of injuries, which could be a scrape or a bruise.” Witnesses said the funeral procession had just left a memorial gathering at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory.
