Frank Matta passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born Oct. 27, 1933, to Bruno Matta and Refugia Cortez Matta in Knox City, Texas. He married the love of his life, Delfa, on March 23, 1954, who preceded him in death.
He loved to dance, go fishing, listen to Spanish music, and watch old cowboy movies with his favorite cowboy actor, Gene Autry. He enjoyed his family and could [auth] make a mean green chile stew. He was a Eucharist minister, a fourth degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Guadalupanas. A rosary will be recited for Frank, 77, of Roswell, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with father Charlie Martinez O.F.M officiating. Burial will be held at South Park Cemetery. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children: Oscar Matta and wife, Sandra, Frank Matta Jr., Sylvia Renteria and husband, Martin, Andrew Matta and wife, Sandra, and Suzanne Montoya and husband, Richard; 15 grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren; four brothers: Antonio Matta, Vicente Matta, Bruno Matta Jr., and Mike Matta; and two sisters: Helen Castillo and Aurora Matta.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delfa; his parents; a brother and a sister. Pallbearers will be Eric Matta, Joseph Matta, Mathew Matta, Anthony Valenzuela, Edward Valenzuela and Richard Montoya Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the granddaughters, Rebecca, Deanna and Anais.
