An El Paso man was pr[auth] onounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle rollover 20 miles east of Hagerman, around 5:30 a.m., Friday.

Donald “Chip” Terry, 28, was driving east on State Road 249, when he veered into the southern shoulder of the roadway. Police say Terry may have overcorrected, which resulted in his 1999 Chevrolet pickup flipping and then rolling over several times. Terry was ejected from the vehicle during one of the rollovers, according to the police investigation.

State Police determined that excessive speed, driver inattention and not wearing a seatbelt contributed to the fatality. Police also noted that alcohol had not been ruled out as another contributing factor.
