Roswell police have identified a person of interest in a drive-by shooting that left a 16-year-old girl injured, Wednesday.

According to the RPD, the girl was shot in the leg in front of her home in the 1100 block of South Holland Avenue around 10:15 a.m. She was transported to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center by ambulance. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Detectives executed two search warrants in connection with the shooting, and spoke with Steven Perez, 19, of Roswell. Perez was arrested on charges unrelated to the shooting.

“We were able to develop enough information through today’s investigation to charge him with a prior incident,” said Officer Travis Holley, RPD spokesman.

Holley said Perez remains a person of interest in Wednesday’s shooting.

Perez is charged with shooting at or from a motor vehicle, a second-degree felony; and aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony. He’s being held at the Chaves County Adult Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
